Monday, Monday
It’s raining in Arkansas—enough to keep me off the reservoir even with the redear starting to bed. A shooting house for my daughters needs to be built, but November is so far away. Besides, I’m focused on the Regionals. But the event staff has run through and tested the courses to the point of nausea.
Yeah, it’s Monday.
The blog I want to write is the same one that the TOC nation is ready to hear: Qualifier Results. Unfortunately, we are in a holding pattern. There is no one who wants the results to be finished more than the poor souls having to enter every score from every event. But in order to ensure that it is done correctly, it just takes time. Please be patient and remember that if a mistake is made, it could be you who is incorrectly left off the list of Regional Qualifiers.
I haven’t seen one score sheet or spoken with those entering them, but I’m starting to get an idea where the cut-off line is going to fall. During the Saturday and Sunday of competition, my phone blew up with calls from competitors who wanted to know if (fill-in with whatever score) would be enough, and reports of new competitors. (Yes, I’m excited to see the lady from Texas shoot as well as the fella who scored a 141.)
Now, to fill in the time until results are finalized, let’s hear your guess at the cut-off line.

I will be generous and say that I will give you 5 points per event making the cutoff be at 135. Not to gloat I was higher than that. As I see it that would be a fair spot to seperate the men from the boys or the women from the girls. Could be wrong.
Mr. Davis,
Just curious but will there be any kind of quality control on the applicants who ran the course multiple times per day? I would like to see their first score counted and the rest put in the trash. Its a bunch of BS and lack of integrity for the sport. Were was the control from the BPS staff monotoring the events?
Chiper25,
Higher than 135 is a great score. Congrats. Keep that performance up at Regionals and you'll get to Dogwood.
The cut off is determined by where the magic 200 number falls.
I'm not going to guess at a specific number, but I would think that it would be below 135. But I'm wrong on a daily basis. (I live with a wife and three daughters who are a lot smarter than I am; how could I not be?)
Only one score per competitor is counted. The volunteers at the events did a great job from the feedback I've gotten, so my only response concerning them is a big "Thank you" for helping.
Oh yeah, please call me John. If it's not coming from one of my daughters' friends, Mr. Davis feels akward.
Make that awkward, not akward. I think akward's definition is "use spell check, idiot".
John,
I'm with Chiper25.....I did crappy on the fishing portion but shot a 47 in archery and 43 in rifle. If I'd know that I could have gone back on Sunday to get a different score, then I would have. I STILL would have been casting directly South to hit the target to the North due to the wind factor but I sure would have given it another go. So, having said all that.......how are the wildcards picked? Any insight?
Thanks,
Rafe
Rafe,
Go to Entry Form at the top of the page and there is a section for the wildcard application. Sell yourself, no one else will. Good luck.
Hi I don't understand where you people have a 135. The most you can have is a 110. Where are yall getting 135 and 141
I have to agree that there should have been either more control of repeat offenders or put it out in the promotions that there was no limits to trying. Had I know that I would have stayed from open to close and try all day and practiced at night til the next morning. This was my first qualifier and I hope I did well enough for the top pics. We are waiting patiently. Please hurry up!!!
To thebeast. I don't know about where you tried to qualify at but the highest score you could receive (at least were I tried in Dania, FL BPS) and most of what I have heard from others is a 150. 50 points high score for each of the events (Archery, Air rifle and baitcasting).
I tried at dania fl and they said you could get a 50 in archery and 50 in rifle but you could only get up to 10 in baitcasting. For instance if your first cast was a 10 they stopped you. So how is that 150
Mr Davis- Does it show anywhere the results of 2008 top 200 qualifieras anywhere here on the site?
I am not quite sure about what was wrong there. Like everything else there was one practice shot and 5 qualifying shots as in each event. I scored a 25 in the baitcasting at the Dania BPS. I went on Sunday afternoon. What about you?
I went sat. morn and my wife went sun. afternoon and were told the same on both days
Last year at the it was top 6 out of each store that went on. I went to reginals last year in harrisburg. Last year everything was scored different than this year last year you used all there equipment you wheren't able to bring your own bow or adjust the baitcaster. It truly was harder last year but reginals you can only go thru it once so it will quickly weed out competitors so be on your A game.
You also had 3 minutes to complete each area ( archery, rifle, baitcasting)
I have watched one of the posted videos from regionals past and there was baitcasting and flycasting along with the archery and the rifle. I believe it was the 2007 video. Is that the norm? I need to practice fly becuz I have never even touched a flyrod. Always wanted to but never have.
Hey beast- I don't know what happened because I was given my 6 shots and so was the guy before me and I know there was 2 people after me on Sun. PM.
I just got back from a trip in Catmandu. Crazy fish down there. Anyway, is it to late for me to try and qualify at a qualifier? Can I just show up at a regional, b/c I think I have what it takes to blow the event wide open. Please let me know- Bobby.
Wow Fleviner that is really cocky I would have to say you would prolly be put in your place with a comment like that.
No offense but you are truly under estamting the competiton.
BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone that shows up to reginals prolly deserves to be there.
jab8375,
What do you think Paul T. would do to a guy like Bobby Flevinger?
I believe Bobby F. is all talk and no action. Paul and the other competitors would make Bobby wish he never even attempted it.
jab8357... have you decided where you are going to compete if you qualified for regionals...
Hey leobrown its lautrey I will be at the Grapevine competition and can`t wait to see everyone there!
i know what you mean... i cant wait either... have you been preparing yourself... i am going to compete at grapevine if i qualified... do you live in texas or do you have to travel to...
GB,
There is no fly casting this year at the Regionals.
hey john if there is no fly casting this year what event will be replacing it
Well hey john whats goin on I don't if you have remebered me yet? I was a spectator at the championship last year Billingsley boy. I watched the top competitors last year and I think they would eat him alive not only paul but the rest of the crew. They also have the sportsmanship not one guy walked into it last year sayin i have this in the bag. Paul even looked like he was nervous at times!
Leo brown I haven't decided yet it will be Nashville or the bloodbath at Harrisburg! My only concern is qualifying my score isn't where it should be. I goofed and hurried threw the course instead of taking my time. Like every great outdoorsman we all have those day some in the woods some in the spotlight.
jab,
oh course I remember; knew from your post on the finals.
LB,
Friday's blog will have the info.
Good luck.
Hey john i received a messager saying my application for qualifiers was incomplete that there was no email and my phone number was wrong. When i tried sending to the site the message failed saying something about the format on my profile but i dont know how to change it. So i am unable to send the information if what ematee told me is true.

When will the qualifiers be posted or notified????? The waitin' is unbearable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still waiting for results. I was the highest at my location but only scored 132. Baitcasting was done outdoors in a 30 mph wind. Will there be any consideration for that? I only scored 36 in this area
I think Flevinger 3X is full of it. There ain't nothing to catch in Catmandu but the beaver fever. He would get his you know what handed to him in the regionals.
