Nashville Wrap
Through two Regionals there is one obvious fact: the talent level is up. Nashville was as deep as Grapevine, and all three tickets to Dogwood were collected by new blood. If the trend continues, September is gonna be fun.
Tom Boatwright loves him some outdoors and it shows by how he competes and interacts with fellow sportsmen. I got to spend about 10 minutes with Tom before the event, and he never asked for advice or rules clarification. He just wanted to tell me how good the bow-fishing is back home. Loves it, boy, loves it.
Chris Reed finished second and had his whole family there for the show. He was solid throughout the event and strikes me as a guy who will put in the time it takes to win the TOC. Plus, it’s real hard not to pull for someone when their boys are yelling, “Go daddy!”
Justin Brown picked up the third invitation and has the ability to compete in the finals.

Thanks for the comment John,
and you are so right about putting in the time. I went this weekend and bought my first fly rod ever. I bought a Hobbs Creek 8'6" 5 weight with my American Express gift card. I had no idea you could actually catch fish on such tiny little hooks. Been in the backyard all day casting it. My 6 year old little girl (Morgan) has shown a real interest in it as well. She may be the one to watch out for in a few years. Again, I would like to thank yall for putting this event on, and for giving us an opportunity to compete with such great people..
SEMPER FI,

Chris,
You're a class act and I look forward to getting to know you and your family. You're going to be tough; you have natural talent and drive, which is a real good combo. But you are also willing to listen to advice, which is big for a rookie in this deal. Let the veterans help you, which they will, we have some great guys coming back. You will be amazed at the bonds you make if you are willing.
Feel free to contact me anytime and I will try help you prepare. The games at the Finals are much, much bigger, but nothing you can't handle.
John
P.S. Bring Morgan to Arkansas, I know a great fly fishing creek for kids only...she would be ruined after fishing it.
Congratulations to the Nashville top three. I look forward to meeting each of you in Dogwood. John's note above "You will be amazed at the bonds you make if you are willing" is so true. I'm glad to say some the guys I talk to or email the most are guys that have participated in the TOC ... Coop, Peter M., Drew Simon, Paul T. and of course John D. You'll have the time of your life and go away with a whole new set of friends that love to hunt and fish as much as you do. We'll see you in September at the D-Canyon.
I am going to miss my regional do to weather... i have had three flight delays which will put me in independence at today one pm. i was suppose to be there last night at 11pm. i dont know if you guys are gonna let me run through the course which is to bad i really wanted to compete
LB - Man I feel for you. That is a total bummer. Hang in there and we'll see you next year I'm sure.
Brian
Congrat's to the winner's at Nashville and Independance. I'm sure i'm gonna have 6 new friends at the end of this even though 1 of them is a Marine, Just what we need another Marine, Go Army... Just kidding Chris welcome aboard...
Who won in Independance? Congrats to you guy's. Hope I get to meet you. It sounds like there's more new blood going to dogwood.
Leobrown - Did you make it to Independence? I heard the TOC-Blue 3 group let you compete since your travel was delayed due to weather. How did you do?
We want to know about the Top 3.
Brian
We have one more week and one more qualifier to go before the field is set for the big show. For all the Guy's and possibly Gal's that are going to be competeing in the final qualifier, good luck. Spend this week doing fine tuning practice, and have fun with it. If you have kids, invite them to practice with you. Keep your eye on the big picture and the rest will fall into place.
Coop
John,
Who are the top three from independance?
Jay- Congratulations on your 2nd place finish today. Good news travels fast. I understand the other two competitors have game. Let us all know how the day went and what the events were like.
Thanks Brian, The other two guys definatley have game. As usual the Blue 3 guy's did an awsome job and made the events challenging, like making us cast around a corner and under a log! That's where I got lucky a couple times. And thanks to all the other guys in Harisburg, it was great competing with you and i'm looking forward to seeing you in the future. You definately needed to have a solid day to get in. Stiff competion ran deep and I was lucky to have a good day. Really lookin forward to Sept.!!!
Congratulations Jay, Good job on making it back. Can't wait to see you in Sept.
Coop
Thanks, same here Coop.

well i left friday at 11am and was suppose to be kansas city at 10pm that evening... my flight had three lay overs each one was delayed or had mechanical problems...i took seven different flights didnt get to sleep but i made it... i arrived in kansas city at 130pm on saturday and i made it to the competition at 245pm... i dont remember the names of the winners but there was a tie for first place(one had competed at grapevine)first places score was 21 and 3rd was 38... unfortunately i finished 4th with a 46 but i put my wildcard in so you never know... i also heard you called and thats why the waited and i wanted to say thankyou... competing was great i would also like to thank the blue crew for waiting
loebrown - I'm sorry you didn't make it to the "Big D-Canyon". Hey the guys with Blue 3 are GREAT and more than fair. They want only the best for you as a competitor. Hang in there and give it a try again next year. Good luck in future events. -- Brian

Glad you made it to KC inspite of all the challenges.
As more and more of us have to fly to sporting vacations it seems a natural to have the "Airport scramble" as an event in the TOC competition. Last minute gate changes, dealing with security checks, (trying to figure out what to do with the Leatherman's tool you forgot was in your carry-on), catching a connecting flight, etc......
brian
i will see you next year for sure but in the mean time i ll be ok archery season starts in two weeks so i will be busy.

i am just glad i got to compete and next year i will be sure to fly out two days in advance.
